Saar: It has achieved this feat in less than 35 years after commencing production in India in December 1983.

Sit back and relax because this piece is going to be a bit dry and a bit too overwhelming simultaneously. Let’s get Maruti Suzuki’s latest achievement out of the way first and then we’ll build on how it has progressed ever since it began its production in India in December 1983. The Indo-Japanese firm has crossed the lifetime production mark of 2 crore units and it has done so in just 34 years and 5 months.

Maruti Suzuki Ranked Ninth Amongst World’s Top Ten Most Valuable Car Brands

Outside Japan, India is the only country to achieve this feat. That said, Suzuki took 45 years and 9 months to reach the 2 crore mark in its home country. That shows how quickly its Indian operations are catching up to that of Japan’s. Which was the 20,000,000th model produced? It was the Maruti Suzuki Swift, produced at the company’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat.

The most manufactured model was the Maruti Suzuki Alto. With both its derivatives, 800 and K10, put together, over 31.7 lakh units have been produced. The Alto nameplate has been in production in India since the year 2000. Next in line is the model that established Maruti Suzuki in India, the Maruti 800. Until it went out of production, over 2.91 lakh units had been produced. At third place, it is the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. At 21.7 lakh units produced until June 2018, the nameplate surpassed the 20 lakh mark in September last year.

The fourth and fifth positions have been taken by the Omni van and the Swift hatchback respectively. However, the tables will soon turn because the latest-generation of the Swift is selling like crazy.

Maruti Suzuki Sells 3 Lakh AMT-Equipped Models In Four Years

If we look at the production trend and the way the Indian automotive market has exploded since 1994, the figures are beyond astonishing for India’s largest carmaker. The jump from 10 lakh units to 50 lakh units took eleven years. But since then, the production has surged multifolds. In less than six years after the first eleven, Maruti Suzuki produced another 50 lakh units. The next jump of 50 lakh units was achieved in just over four years and the last one in just over three. Overwhemling, isn’t it?!
