Maruti Suzuki has given the Ertiga a mid-life makeover. The three-row people mover receives cosmetic changes inside and outside the cabin and a couple of new features. Not just that, as there’s an updated petrol engine in the mix and a new gearbox option. More on all that in a bit. First, the price list:

With that out of the way, let’s focus on what’s new. On the outside, the new Ertiga gets a more prominent front grille design, dual-tone alloy wheels and a chrome strip on the boot lid. Indoors, the dashboard now features a faux teak wood finish and new dual-tone seat upholstery. The range-topping variants also get two new features – an updated 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Suzuki Connect with 40+ connected-car features. Maruti Suzuki has also added two new colour options – Splendid Silver and Dignity Brown.

The most significant change, however, is found under the bonnet. The Ertiga gets an updated version of the 1.5-litre petrol engine, which produces 102bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. That’s about 2bhp and 1.2Nm less than before. If that puts you off, here’s something that’ll delight you – the new powerplant is tuned to deliver better fuel efficiency than before. And the figures don’t lie. With the 5-speed manual transmission, the new Ertiga can deliver up to 20.51kmpl (19.01kmpl previously). With the new 6-speed automatic (with paddle shifters) in place, that mileage figure can go as high as 20.30kmpl (17.99kmpl with the old 4-speed AT).

If you settle for the CNG variants, the performance and mileage numbers change. When fed with CNG, the 1.5-litre mill generates 86bhp/121.5Nm. Switching to petrol mode takes those figures up to 99bhp/136Nm. Here, the only gearbox option is the 5-speed manual, and Maruti Suzuki claims a maximum mileage of 26.11kmpl, 0.03kmpl more than before.

Coming to the features list, that depends entirely on the trim level chosen. The list includes Hill-Hold Assist, cruise control, cooled cupholders and dedicated AC vents for all three rows. Stuff like ISOFIX anchorages, voice recognition, auto headlamps, powered ORVMs, automatic climate control, and a rear-view camera are also available.

The new Ertiga continues to rival the Mahindra Marazzo, Kia Carens, and its sibling – the XL6. That last one is also due for a facelift later this month.
