It was back in September 2015 when Renault launched the Kwid in India. Since then, over 4,00,000 units have been sold in the Indian market. Clearly, then, the hatchback is nothing short of a blockbuster for the French carmaker. However, there’s now an updated range of the Kwid – the model year 2022. Here’s the complete price list:

So, what are the changes? First of all, there’s a new trim level – RXL(O) – available with both engine options but only with the 5-speed manual transmission. If you’re familiar with Kwid’s list of trim levels, the new one slots between the RXL and RXT derivatives. And you know what that means for the features list. Or, to word it out – the RXL(O) will offer a bit more than what RXL does but not as much as the RXT. Also, Renault has shelved the RXT(O) trim level.

What else? Renault has devised a new interior and exterior colour harmony for the Kwid. The Climber variants, for instance, now sport white accents and are available in new colour options. Slotting under the dual-tone bucket are Metal Mustard with black roof and Ice Cool White with black roof. Also, the hatchback comes with different dual-tone flex wheels. And upping the safety quotient is the Seatbelt Pyrotech along with load limiter, a combo that’s standard across the range.

Besides the features mentioned above, the Kwid also offers a rear-view camera, LED digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, power windows and electrically-adjustable ORVMs.

As before, the Kwid continues with petrol engine options – a 0.8-litre unit and the 1.0-litre motor. The former pumps out 53bhp/72Nm, whereas the latter offers 67bhp/91Nm. Both powerplants come coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Those seeking a two-pedal setup can get the 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) but only with the gutsier mill. According to Renault, the 0.8-litre engine can return up to 22.25kmpl.

In India, the Renault Kwid’s primary rival is the Maruti Suzuki Alto. That, however, is long overdue for a generation change. Expect that to happen as early as this year.
