Remember BMW launching the new X4 in Black Shadow spec last month? Well, that’s sold out. However, to up the ante, the German brand has now introduced the Silver Shadow edition of the crossover. Like before, there are two M Sport variants available – xDrive30i and xDrive30d. The former costs INR 71.90 lakh, whereas the latter is priced at INR 73.90 lakh. Both those derivatives cost INR 1.40 lakh more than their Black Shadow counterparts.

Some of the black embellishments from the Black Shadow spec have been replaced by those finished in high gloss chrome. The list includes the kidney grille and mesh, bumper inlays and exhaust outlets. However, the M headlights in Shadowline black have been given a miss. The X4 Silver Shadow Edition is available in three colours – Carbon Black, Phytonic Blue and Alpine White.

Get the xDrive30i variant, and you’ll get a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-pot petrol engine with 248bhp/350Nm on tap. On the other hand, the xDrive30d has a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel mill that produces 261bhp/620Nm. Both powerplants come coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s four-wheel-drive system.

Performance? The petrol-powered X4 can get you from nothing to 100kmph in 6.6 seconds and clock 235kmph flat out. However, the diesel-fed derivative can complete the standard sprint in 5.8 seconds and reach 245kmph at full stretch.

As far as the list of features is concerned, it’s identical for both variants. It includes rain-sensing wipers, auto LED headlamps, three-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof, 20-inch alloy wheels and multiple driving modes. Other features, such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic tailgate operation, a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, automatic start/stop function and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, are also available. And, obviously, the list of safety features is just as promising as before.

The BMW X4 takes the fight to the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the Porsche Macan. Audi, too, will be joining the party with the Q3 Sportback, hopefully by the end of the year. Which is your pick?
