What you see here is what Land Rover calls the Discovery Metropolitan Edition. First unveiled in October last year, the plush iteration is now up for grabs in India. There are two variants available – D300 (diesel) and P360 (petrol), and the prices start at INR 1.26 crore.

To create it, Land Rover took the already loaded R-Dynamic HSE trim and garnished it with more stuff. What all? Bright Atlas is detailing for the grille and ‘Discovery’ lettering, Hakuba Silver lower bumper inserts, and 22-inch Diamond Turned alloy wheels with gloss black finish. The seven-seater also boasts black Land Rover brake callipers, privacy glass and a sliding panoramic roof.

The Discovery Metropolitan Edition also gets more features as standard. The list of gizmos includes a head-up display, wireless device charging, a heated steering wheel, 20-way powered seats with memory, cooling and heating functions, and four-zone automatic climate control. The SUV also packs a powered tailgate, an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Pivi Pro, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a PM2.5 air purification system and a 700-watt Meridian sound system.

The diesel-fed variant has a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine that pumps out 296bhp/650Nm. On the other hand, the petrol-powered version also has a 3.0-litre turbocharged mill, but with 355bhp/500Nm on tap. By default, both motors come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The top speed for both variants is 209kmph, but where the petrol version can hit 100kmph from nothing in 6.5 seconds, the diesel takes 0.3 seconds longer.

Without a doubt, the Land Rover Discovery is a capable all-rounder. And it competes with the likes of the BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS in India. So the question is – would you pick the Discovery over the other two? Or, perhaps, you’d settle for something else in that price range? Let us know in the comments section below.
