Well, that didn’t take too long! The all-new Range Rover first broke cover in October 2021. And now, it is available for us Indians to buy one. Not that many can afford it! Jokes apart, the fifth-gen Range Rover is as luxurious and comfortable as they come. What’s more, there are multiple permutations and combinations available to suit the buyer just right. In India, the all-new Range Rover starts at Rs 2.32 crore. That’s ex-showroom!

Okay, let’s quickly sort out the variants available. The SUV is up for grabs in standard-wheelbase, long-wheelbase and long-wheelbase with seven seats. Trim levels include SE, HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition in the former two. However, the seven-seat version is available in three iterations – SE, HSE and Autobiography. Moreover, the First Edition models will be available throughout the first tear of the car’s production. That wasn’t too difficult to fathom, correct?

Now, we come to the powertrain options. There are three engines for you to choose from – 4.4-litre V8 petrol, 3.0-litre petrol and 3.0-litre diesel. Starting with the diesel, it pumps out 346bhp/700Nm, whereas the same-sized petrol engine produces 394bhp/550Nm. Both those mills come coupled to a mild-hybrid system as well. However, if you don’t really care about those fuel-economy figures and want the most oomph, you’ll settle for the largest of the trio. That puts out 523bhp and 700Nm of peak torque. For the record, the twin-turbocharged V8 comes from BMW. As standard, all variants come with rear-wheel steering, all-wheel-drive, and 8-speed automatic transmission.

The list of features is long. It includes a 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, two 11.4-inch touchscreen for rear-seat entertainment, digital LED headlamps and OTA software upgrades compatibility. And so it goes on to include a Meridian sound system with active noise cancellation tech, cabin air purification system with PM2.5 filtration, heated leather seats, a 3D surround camera, ClearSight IRVM, electronic air suspension and massaging seats.

Since this is the first Range Rover to offer a seven-seat layout, it has competition with those full-sized SUVs, such as the Lexus LX570, Mercedes-Benz GLS and the BMW X7. From that “luxury” perspective, one could rope in the Bentley Bentayga, Aston Martin DBX and the Lamborghini Urus in the mix.
