One aspect where Maruti Suzuki definitely focuses is on how to make their cars the most frugal. And yes, that is one of the major highlights for the all-new Celerio as well. India’s largest carmaker has touted the upcoming hatch as the “most fuel-efficient petrol car in India”. So if that has got you excited, you can go ahead and book the new Celerio right away. That can be done either online or offline by depositing a minimum token amount of Rs 11,000. The launch event is scheduled for November 10, 2021.

Officially, not much has been confirmed. The 10-second TVC, however, does help establish a robust foundation. Here, check it out:

The first takeaway is the unmistakable all-new design, inside and out. And some clever touches. For instance, there’s a button next to the exterior door handle. That, somehow, helps open the car. Keyless entry, maybe? A similar button is also the boot lid which, along with the taillamps, echoes the Swift’s rear end.

Inside, there’s a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system – a first for the marque. Along with that, there’s a push-button start/stop and swanky-looking gear lever for the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). By default, however, the hatchback will pack a 5-speed manual gearbox. The steering wheel comes from WagonR, while some of the other knobs and buttons are shared with the S-Presso.

The second-gen Celerio will also get a brand-new engine. Maruti Suzuki hasn’t released specifics, but it will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally-aspirated mill. Courtesy of the Dual VVT technology and idle stop/start functionality, the hatchback will not only be more powerful than before but also considerably more fuel-efficient.

So, there you have it. The launch isn’t far away, and that’s when we’ll know all about the new-gen Celerio. Once introduced, it’ll renew its rivalry with the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and the Renault Kwid.
