Let’s start with a simple fact – the Nexon EV is the bestselling pure-electric car in India. And the recipe behind its success was relatively straightforward – impressive all-around performance and attractive pricing. However, it has taken its fair share of criticisms, especially for the gap between claimed and real-world range. So, to nullify the concept of “range anxiety”, Tata Motors has now introduced a new variant – the Nexon EV Max. It is available in two variants – XZ+ and XZ+ Lux – and two charger options. Here’s the price list:

To put things in perspective, the Nexon EV’s XZ+ and XZ+ Lux derivatives cost INR 16.20 lakh and INR 17.20 lakh, respectively. And before you wonder, both have only the 3.3 kW charger option. If you think the Nexon EV Max is way too expensive, may I employ you to think again? There’s more to the new variant than just a faster charger option.

First of all, the Nexon EV Max has a 40.5kWh battery, which can help clock a range of up to 437km. Next, it has a stronger motor. With 141bhp/250Nm on tap, the newcomer can hit 100kmph from a standstill in under 9 seconds. And as before, the duo come with an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty and IP67 standards of protection. As for the vehicle, the standard cover is for 3 years/1,25,000km.

Charging times? With a 3.3kW charger, the Nexon EV Max will take about 15 hours to replenish its battery from 10 to 100 per cent. But, if you plug the car into a 7.2kW AC fast charger, the wait time from 0 to 100 per cent charge is around 6.5 hours. If you don’t have that kind of time either, you can use a 50kW DC fast charger. That can charge the battery pack from 0 to 80 per cent in 56 minutes.

The Nexon EV Max also offers more features. The list includes multiple drive modes, eight new ZConnect 2.0 connected-car tech features, ventilated front seats, and multi-level regenerative braking (four levels). And that’s not all. The list also comprises an air purifier, wireless mobile charger, auto-dimming IRVM and cruise control. In addition, Tata Motors has upped the safety game with new gizmos such as ESP with i-VBAC, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, electronic parking brake with auto hold and all-four disc brakes.

Bookings and deliveries are underway. You can book the Tata Nexon EV Max in one of the three dual-tone finishes – Intensi-Teal, Daytona Grey and Pristine White. The question is – would you?
