Two launches in one week! That’s very unlike Maruti Suzuki. A couple of days ago, we witnessed the launch of the revised Baleno. And today, we get the 2022 WagonR. Prices for the updated tallboy start at Rs 5.40 lakh and go up to Rs 7.10 lakh (ex-showroom). There are thirteen variants available, including two Tour H3 derivatives, devised specifically for commercial use. Here’s the complete price list:

Maruti Suzuki has equipped the updated WagonR with more fuel-efficient powerplants. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine pumps out 66bhp/89Nm in petrol-only variants. However, the figures change for bi-fuel derivatives. In those, when fuelled with petrol, the motor produces 64bhp/89Nm. Switching to CNG drops the output to 56bhp/82Nm. As far as mileage numbers go, the petrol-MT combo goes up to 24.35kmpl, whereas the petrol-AMT can deliver 25.19kmpl. For the CNG variants, it is 34.05kmpl.

The other engine option is the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder mill. That produces 89bhp and 113Nm of peak torque. Mileage? The petrol-MT can return as much as 23.56kmpl. However, the petrol-AMT combo goes up to 24.43kmpl. Both powerplants come coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission by default. The other option is a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

Let’s round up the cosmetic and feature updates. First, Maruti Suzuki has introduced two dual-tone paint options for the 2022 WagonR. However, both are restricted to the range-topping ZXI+ trim. They are Gallant Red and Magma Grey with a Black roof. Second, the car now gets black 14-inch alloy wheels, a feature that was missing previously. Third, there’s new upholstery for the seats – beige and dark grey melange. Fourth, the AMT variants now get the added convenience of the hill-start assist function. And fifth, all variants now come with dual airbags as standard. Derivatives with only one airbag have been shelved.

Apart from those changes, the rest of the package remains the same. The list of features still includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front fog lamps, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rear defogger and a four-speaker sound system.

The revised Maruti Suzuki WagonR will continue to compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in India. How happy are you with the updated WagonR?
