Back in July 2021, Audi launched the e-tron in India. It is available in both forms – SUV and Sportback. Now, the brand is all set to introduce another EV – the e-tron GT. And like the e-tron, the GT is also up for grabs in two versions – Quattro and RS. The minimum token amount has been set at Rs 10 lakh. As for the launch, that should happen either by the end of this month or early next one.

Unsurprisingly, the e-tron GT will arrive as a direct import. And we know what that means! Yes, eye-watering price tags. That being said, Audi knows the car won’t become be a volume generator. The idea behind its introduction is simple – to be the first carmaker that offers a pure-electric high-performance vehicle in India.

Let the numbers game begin! Both e-tron GT variants have two electric motors, one for each axle. In the e-tron GT Quattro, they can jointly produce up to 523bhp/640Nm. Those numbers for the RS e-tron GT are 637bhp/830Nm. With the help of a two-speed transmission, the e-tron GT Quattro can hit 100kmph from nothing in 4.1 seconds and top out at 245kmph. Courtesy of a gutsier rear motor, the RS e-tron GT can complete the standard sprint in 3.3 seconds and reach 250kmph flat out.

The cars get their juices from a 93.4kWh battery pack, out of which 83.7kWh is usable. Range? As per WLTP, the e-tron GT Quattro can travel up to 488km on a single charge.  Those for the RS e-tron GT is 472km. Both AC and DC feed (up to 270kW) are supported as far as charging options are concerned. Audi says that a recommended fast charger can replenish the battery from 5 to 80 per cent in less than 22.5 minutes under ideal conditions. Or, a five-minute charge 270kW charge can add up to 100km to the range. On the other hand, an 11kW AC charger can recharge an empty battery overnight.

As you’d expect, the list of features is quite extensive. It includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a panoramic glass roof and ambient lighting. Other features, such as three-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, powered and heated ORVMs with memory function, wireless mobile charger and cruise control, are also included.

In India, the Audi e-tron GT will have no direct rivals. At least no pure-electric ones. That, however, will change when Porsche introduces the step-sibling – the Taycan.
