All keen drivers out there would have waited for this to unfold. Skoda has confirmed that the Octavia RS 245 will launch on February 5, 2020, during the Auto Expo. As revealed last month, only 200 units will be up for grabs. That means the go-fast Octavia will take the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route to land in India. Some might wonder why such a small lot for India. The reason is simple – at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) 2020, Skoda will unveil the all-new Octavia RS. For that to enter production later in the year, the old model has to give way.

India is probably the last market to get the Octavia RS 245 before it goes out of production. That said, it still has a lot going for itself to entice the fans. Powering the RS 245 is a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine with 241bhp/370Nm on tap. A 7-speed DSG harnesses all that oomph and feeds it to the front wheels only. According to Skoda, that configuration is enough for a 0-100kmph time of 6.6 seconds and an electronically-governed top speed of 250kmph. Compared to the Octavia RS 230, which was on sale in India for a short period and had the same mechanical setup, the RS 245 has about 14bhp/20Nm more.

Are you impressed by those performance figures? Well, takers won’t be left disappointed in the features department either. The Octavia RS 245 will ride on low-profile tyres wrapped around 19-inch alloys, and boast gizmos such as LED-powered headlamps, taillamps and DRLs, Alcantara sports seats, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and wireless mobile charging. Glossy black panels on the outside and an all-black interior accentuate the car’s sporty quotient.

At the upcoming Auto Expo, Skoda will also showcase the Vision IN Concept. That will enter production later this year and become the first product from SAVWIPL (Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.) to cater to the compact SUV segment. Skoda has also lined-up the introduction of the Karoq SUV in India. That model could also make an appearance at the biennial auto show.
