In addition to showcasing the Taigun SUV, Volkswagen also displayed two more India-bound models at the Auto Expo 2020. They are – the T-Roc and the Tiguan Allspace. All the digestible dope on the Taigun, which will launch near year as a Creta-rival, came to light a couple of days before the gates of the biennial event opened for media. For the other two, the company has now opened up a bit. Both models will arrive in India this year (Tiguan Allspace in March and T-Roc in April) via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. And Volkswagen has already begun accepting bookings for the duo.

Volkswagen T-Roc

In India, the T-Roc will sit between the Tiguan range and the Taigun. To get things started, Volkswagen will introduce the SUV in just one, petrol-powered variant. Under the bonnet will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged mill with a 7-speed DSG handling transmission duties. With 148bhp/250Nm on tap, the T-Roc can hit 100kmph from a standstill in just over 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 205kmph.

As far as creature comforts are concerned, the T-Roc will pack a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, leather seats, LED headlamps with DRLs, keyless entry and start, a rear-view camera and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On the safety front, features such as six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, ESC and rear parking sensors will be on offer.

Expect the T-Roc to carry a price tag of around Rs 18 lakh, before taxes. Once launched, it will compete with the Jeep Compass, the MG Hector and the upcoming Skoda Karoq.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace

As the name suggests, it is an elongated, three-row version of the Tiguan already available in India. Like with the T-Roc, Volkswagen will introduce the Tiguan Allspace in just one, petrol-fed derivative. The powertrain consists of a 2.0-litre TSI motor producing 187bhp/320Nm, 7-speed DSG and an all-wheel-drive system. A word of caution: Volkswagen might take the 5-seater Tiguan away from India to make space for its Allspace version.

As you’d expect, the list of features will be extensive. The Tiguan Allspace will offer gizmos like LED headlamps with DRLs, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate operation, keyless entry and go, cruise control, electrically-adjustable seats and a touchscreen infotainment system. For safety, the Tiguan Allspace will pack features such as seven airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESC, ABS and parking sensors on the front as well as the rear.

Price? Expect it to cost around Rs 35 lakh, which is nearly twice as much as the T-Roc. Volkswagen’s flagship SUV for India will rival the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner.
