The entry-level car space now has another future-proof option – the BS6-ready (Bharat Stage 6) Renault Kwid. Prices for the updated range start at Rs 2.92 lakh and go up to Rs 5.01 lakh, before taxes. Courtesy of the upgraded powertrains, each variant now costs approximately Rs 9,000 more than before. Given below is the detailed price list:

The Kwid will march into the BS6 era with all three powertrain options. The 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 53bhp/72Nm, comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. That same gearbox is also available with the 1.0-litre petrol motor, which generates 67bhp/91Nm. Renault offers only the larger of the two engines with a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) option. All those performance figures mentioned above remain unchanged as well.

There are no changes to report in the features department either. As standard, the pocket-friendly hatchback comes with LED DRLs, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver’s side front airbag, LED digital instrument cluster and a trip computer. As you move up the model’s trim tree, gizmos such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fast USB charger, a rear-view camera, voice recognition, and options for rear power windows and a passenger-side front airbag, become available.

The Kwid becomes Renault India’s second model to become BS6-compliant. The first was the Triber, prices for which increased by up to Rs 15,000. With the Lodgy axed, Renault will enter the next fiscal with four models. The remaining two, Duster and Captur, will ditch diesel engines and rely on petrol-powered variants alone to entice customers in the BS6 era. Later in the year, Renault will expand its portfolio by introducing a subcompact SUV. Codenamed as the HBC, it will borrow Triber’s platform. Nissan, who is in an alliance with Renault, will take the same recipe to introduce its version of a sub-4 metre SUV as well.
