Before Skoda Auto India introduces the all-new Octavia, it wants the current version to go out in style. And to enable just that, the company has decided to bring back the model’s maddest version – the RS 245. It is destined to launch at the 2020 Auto Expo, which will open its gates on February 7. Skoda as set aside a total of 200 units for India. And yes, all will come via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.

The Octavia RS 245 uses the same engine as the RS 230, which was on sale in India, did. The former, however, gets a beefier version of it. The 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine pumps out 241bhp/370Nm, all of which goes to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG and an electronic limited-slip differential. As per Skoda, the setup is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 6.6 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph. For petrolheads, those figures are incredibly mouth-watering.

The go-fast engineering goes beyond a slick gearbox and a powerful engine. Compared to standard Octavia, the RS 245 rides 14mm lower, thanks to its sports chassis. The rear track is 38mm broader than that of its predecessor. Then there’s the electronic stability control (ESC) with a Sport mode and fat tyres wrapped around 19-inch alloy wheels. It’ll be interesting to see if Skoda packs the India-spec Octavia RS 245 with adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control. That, when the car launched in Europe in early 2017, was an optional extra.

As you’d expect, it will get an extensive list of features. On the outside, the RS 245 will boast LED-powered headlights (adaptive), taillamps and DRLs, and a blacked-out ORVMs and grille. Indoors, the model will feature an all-black theme, Alcantara sports seats, a multifunction sports steering wheel, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and wireless mobile phone charging. On the safety front, the car should boast adaptive cruise control, Blind Spot Detect, Rear Traffic Alert, a bunch of airbags and Front Assist, including Predictive Pedestrian Protection.

Price? Well, that will be high. Let’s put it this way – the RS 230’s launch price was Rs 24.5 lakh. The RS 245 could breach past the Rs 30 lakh mark. The fact of the matter is no other car in that price range offers such a sporty setup. And for that reason alone, Skoda Auto India is likely to exhaust all the inventory pretty quickly.

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
