Of late, Jaguar Land Rover India has been quite busy. It has given us the refreshed Range Rover Velar, the new F-Pace and the I-Pace EV. The brand also started accepting bookings for the Land Rover Discovery facelift, which many felt would be the next to receive a price list. As it turns out, JLR India had other ideas. Instead of delivering on the Discovery front, the company has launched the Range Rover Sport SVR. Price? That’s Rs 2.19 crore, before taxes! The on-road price is Rs 2.42 crore.

So yes, it is costly. Very. However, there are a few reasons which could, to some, justify that price tag. First, it arrives as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), attracting the maximum import duty on a car. Second, it is powered by a 5.0-litre, supercharged V8 engine that produces 567bhp/700Nm. Coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, the powerplant can hurl the 2.3-tonne (unladen) SUV to 100kmph from nothing in a staggering 4.5 seconds and clock 283kmph at full stretch. As for the mileage, do you really have to ask!

Lastly, the Range Rover Sport SVR strikes an almost perfect balance between performance and luxury. Bolstering the latter are features such as Pixel LED headlamps, 21-inch alloy wheels, 19-speaker Meridian sound system, heated front and rear seats, auto-dimming IRVM and illuminated treadplates with Range Rover script. It also packs a 360-degree parking aid, Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, black contrast roof and a driver condition monitor. You get it, don’t you! That list of creature comforts and show-off-y stuff is quite extensive.

Considering that the Range Rover Sport SVR can deliver on almost all fronts to the wealthy, one can justify its price tag. And let’s not forget that it actually competes with models like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG G 63. Out of the three, which one do you fancy the most?
