If someone made a list of the sexiest SUVs out there, the Range Rover Velar would probably top it. And now, it has been updated for the year 2021. Land Rover has kept things simple – two variants, both in R-Dynamic S form. The petrol-powered one costs Rs 79.87 lakh, whereas the diesel-fed derivative is slightly dearer at Rs 80.71 lakh. And yes, the Range Rover Velar is locally assembled.

No matter which one you choose, it’ll come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, a 2.0-litre powerplant and an all-wheel-drive system. The petrol variant has 247bhp/365Nm on tap. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 217kmph. On the other hand, the diesel derivative offers 201bhp/430Nm. With that, the Range Rover Velar can 100kmph from a standstill in 8.2 seconds and reach 210kmph flat out. The latter motor also comes coupled with a mild-hybrid system, which aids in acceleration and fuel economy. The Jaguar F-Pace facelift, launched last week solely in R-Dynamic S form, also gets the same powertrain options.

As far as the list of features is concerned, it is quite a lengthy one. It includes stuff like 20-inch alloy wheels, 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, a 12-speaker Meridian sound system and two 10-inch touchscreens. Other creature comforts, such as cabin air ionisation with a PM2.5 filter, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, perforated leather seats, heated and powered ORVMs with auto-dimming function, a powered tailgate and a 3D surround camera, are also part of the package.

Deliveries of the updated SUV have started already. In India, the Range Rover Velar is a direct rival for the Porsche Macan. Soon, Land Rover will introduce the refreshed Discovery and the updated Evoque in India. At the moment, Jaguar Land Rover has 28 outlets spread across 24 cities in the country. Both those numbers are on the upward spree.
