Audi is all set to join an elite group of carmakers in India. A group that offers luxury electric vehicles (EVs) for personal use. Yes, the Audi e-tron has already landed on our shores. A few media houses have driven it. And, with all the hope in the world, we’ll get to take it for a spin as well. Audi will offer the e-tron in two forms – SUV and Sportback. As for the price list, that will be unveiled on July 22, 2021. The brand has started accepting bookings for the EV with a minimum token amount set at Rs 5 lakh. Both means of transactions, online and offline, are open.

Both e-tron derivatives will wear the same variant nameplate – 55 Quattro. That means they will pack two electric motors, one for each axle, jointly producing up to 402bhp/664Nm. With that oomph, the duo can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 5.7 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 200kmph.

The Sportback, with its sloping rear end, makes for a more aerodynamic shape and promises to travel a bit more than the SUV on a full charge. The powerplant draws its juices from a 95kWh lithium-ion battery. That’s enough for a WLTP-certified range of up to 484km. Yes, the battery supports both AC and DC feeds for charging. The EVs come with an 11kW AC charger that can replenish the battery in about 8.5 hours under ideal conditions. Customers can opt for the 22kW charger by paying a bit extra and half the charging time.

Alternatively, one can plug in the e-tron SUV or the e-tron Sportback to DC charger. Both the vehicles can take up to 150kW of direct current feed. That means the onboard battery can be juiced up from zero to 80 per cent in about 40 minutes.

Some of the features, which will be part of the standard list, includes four-zone automatic climate control, Matrix LED headlamps and adaptive air suspension. Stuff like a digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.6-inch display for comfort functions, a built-in LTE module and ambient lighting is also part of the package.

Obviously, Audi isn’t expecting the e-tron siblings to be volume generators in India. Hence, they come via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Once launched, they will compete against the Jaguar I-Pace and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.
