Meet the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. No, it isn’t the most powerful iteration of the lot. And no, it isn’t the most sophisticated to look at either. But, it can lap the 20.832km stretch of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 38.9 seconds. No other production SUV has lapped the ‘The Green Hell’ faster. And that is what’s so special about the latest Cayenne iteration, one that also rounds off the model range.

Of course, clocking a record-breaking lap time at one of the most fearsome racetracks in the world requires some deep engineering. So to start with, Porsche took the Cayenne Turbo Coupe as the baseline. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo engine, which produces 541bhp/770Nm in the donor car, was thoroughly upgraded to put out 632bhp/850Nm. In addition, the 8-speed transmission, the exhaust system, and the Porsche Traction Management System were modified to handle the extra oomph. Performance figures? Wait for them!

Porsche also stiffened the three-chamber air suspension, lowered the ride height by 17mm and tweaked the suspension management system, Power Steering Plus and rear-axle steering. Even the software that controls the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control was re-engineered to improve high-speed stabilisation.

As a result, the Cayenne Turbo GT can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 3.3 seconds. That 0.6 seconds faster than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe and 0.5 seconds quicker than the most powerful of the lot – the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe. Flat out, the latest iteration can clock 300kmph, 6kmph more than the hybridised coupe and 14kmph more than the Turbo. Those statistics make the Turbo GT the fastest Cayenne ever.

Features? Well, they all exude the sportiness of the car. The record-breaker rides on 22-inch alloys with black wheel arches, a carbon diffuser panel and a contoured carbon roof. The carbon side plates fitted to the roof spoiler are bespoke to the GT, and so is the extendable spoiler, which is 25mm larger than the one on the Cayenne Turbo Coupe. Indoors, the use of Alcantara is even more extensive. Eight-way powered sports seats in the front and two sports seats in the rear are standard in the car. Even the infotainment system is new, which now supports Android Auto in addition to Apple CarPlay.

Porsche’s now accepting bookings for the Cayenne Turbo GT. It expects delivery of the first units in the fourth quarter of this year.
