Mark your calendars! Nissan has announced that it will launch the Kicks compact SUV in India on January 22, 2019. The company started accepting bookings for it in December last year with a minimum token amount set at Rs 25,000. The booking window opened only a few days after Nissan revealed the key features and specifications of its upcoming product.

The India-spec Nissan Kicks will share its underpinnings and most of its mechanicals with its step-sibling and direct competitor – the Renault Captur. The Kicks will be offered with the same set engine-transmission combinations. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will be tuned to produce 110PS of power and 240Nm of torque, whereas the 1.5-litre petrol mill will pump out 106PS of power and 142Nm of torque. While the former will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the latter will get a 5-speed manual unit.

Based on the segment it will cater to, the Kicks cannot lose ground on the features front. The exteriors will flaunt LED projector headlamps, LED signature lamp, 17-inch dual-tone machined alloy wheels, roof rails, bodyside moulding, boomerang-shaped taillamps and a dual-tone paint (if opted for!). The interior will be nicely appointed with a dual-tone black-and-brown theme and leather-wrapped steering, dashboard and door trims.

The list of creature comforts inside the cabin will include a cooled and illuminated glove box, automatic climate control (standard across all trims), an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition and NissanConnect telematics system. If all that is a bit poor for you, don’t be disheartened as the Nissan Kicks will also offer auto headlamps and wipers, an around-view monitor 360-degree camera, front and rear fog lamps, cruise control and hill start assist. The safety kit will include ABS with EBD, multiple airbags, cornering front fog lamps and Vehicle Dynamic Control.

The Nissan Kicks is expected to carry an ex-showroom price list in the Rs 10-15 lakh range. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and, as mentioned above, the Renault Captur.
