Nissan is betting big on the Kicks. It is the first of many products that the Japanese carmaker will introduce in India to turn its fortunes around. It was in October this year when Nissan took the wraps off the India-spec Kicks. And recently, it announced that the Kicks had entered production in India. Now, the carmaker has unveiled a set of key features and specifications for its upcoming compact SUV.

Let’s start with the specifications. The Nissan Kicks will borrow the engine-transmission combinations from its step-sibling – the Renault Captur. That means the Nissan product will be offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.5-litre petrol mill. While the former will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and produce 110PS/240Nm, the latter will have a 5-speed manual and 106PS/142Nm on tap. The fuel-tank capacity, minimum turning radius and the boot space are rated at 50 litres, 5.2 metres and 400 litres respectively.

Over to the key features of the Kicks. On the outside, it will boast LED projector headlamps, LED signature lamp, 17-inch dual-tone machined alloys, dual-tone exterior, roof rails which can take up to 100kg of weight, bodyside moulding and boomerang tail lamps. Inside the cabin, the Nissan Kicks will come with a dual-tone, brown and black theme, leather-wrapped dashboard and door trims, cooled and illuminated glovebox and automatic climate control (as standard).

The list of gizmos also includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, around view monitor 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear fog lamps, automatic headlamps, hill start assist, cruise control and the NissanConnect telematics system. The SUV will also come with ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, multiple airbags, cornering front fog lamps, Vehicle Dynamic Control and Eco drive mode.

So, there you have it—a lot of kit on offer. But there are some noticeable omissions. There is no all-wheel-drive, no sunroof and no disc brakes on the rear wheels. Nissan will start accepting bookings for the Kicks from December 14, 2018. The SUV will launch sometime next month. As far as pricing is concerned, the Nissan Kicks should fall between the Rs 10-14 lakh bracket, at least with the introductory price list.
