Saar: No points for guessing – that dual-tone theme and the dashboard layout is similar to the sixth-gen Polo.

Sorry folks but we must start with a bit of a disappointment. Volkswagen is tipped to skip the upcoming Paris Motor Show, which opens its gates on October 4, 2018. Hence, we won’t get to see the T-Cross SUV in flesh in France. Instead of shelling-out ludicrous amounts to set up a show in Paris, the Wolfsburg-based automaker will spend the Euros on a dedicated event for the Polo-based SUV. That makes sense as a standalone show could play a vital role for a model which can potentially turn things around for Volkswagen in markets like South America, China and India.

Anyway, let’s get to the matter at hand. Volkswagen has released three new sketches of the T-Cross – two for the exterior and one for the interior. Up until now, we never saw how the interiors looked like and hence it deserves to get the attention first. As you can see, the sketch of the cabin is for the dashboard layout and Volkswagen fanatics will immediately tell you that it is very similar to the current-gen Polo, which we don’t get in India. The first thing that catches the eye is the generous use of the orange colour with the subtleness of black.

As far as ergonomics are concerned, they fall right in line with the Polo’s interior design mantra. The Volkswagen T-Cross’ dashboard will have a driver-focused layout with a single glass panel housing two displays – digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system. Underneath the centrally-located screen will be a couple of rectangular AC vents, which will look different to the one on the passenger side.

We can even take a calculated guess on the what the sizes of both the displays will be inside the Volkswagen T-Cross. Based on what the Polo offers in Europe, the T-Cross will get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system with up to 8.0-inch in size. The T-Cross could also get features like ventilated seats and wireless mobile phone charging. The SUV will surely get a premium sound system tuned and developed from Beats by Dr Dre. However, it is worth noting that this sketch is for the Euro-spec T-Cross and the one coming to India won’t be as swanky in the recipe.

The remainder of the newest teasers depict what the exterior will look like. However, we’ve already seen the T-Cross almost without any camouflage. In fact, Volkswagen began the teaser campaign for the T-Cross with the SUV’s rear end. The new sketches just confirm that the smallest SUV from Volkswagen will visually look wider and intimidating than it actually will be.

For international markets, the Volkswagen T-Cross will be underpinned by the MQB A0 platform. However, the German carmaker will build the India-specific T-Cross on the MQB A0 IN platform. To capture the imagination of buyers of cars such as the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster, the India-spec T-Cross is likely to be bigger in dimensions. That means it will be more commodious than the one meant for Europe. As per the ‘India 2.0 project’, Volkswagen will introduce the T-Cross only after Skoda is done launching its own version of the Creta rival. Hence, don’t expect to land one of these in your garage before the end of 2020.
