The Tiguan nameplate has been amongst us since 2007. To date, Volkswagen has sold over 6 million of them globally. That makes the Tiguan family the most successful SUV range from the German carmaker. Last year, we saw the introduction of the refreshed Tiguan. Come next week, and we’ll get to witness the debut of the new Tiguan Allspace. The date is May 12.

At the moment, Volkswagen has released just one teaser image of the upcoming SUV. Besides that ‘Allspace’ badge accompanying the left taillamp, there’s no telling that it will be different to the standard Tiguan. In fact, that has always been the case. Both the Tiguan and the Tiguan Allspace look and feel pretty much the same. The only difference between them is in length, with the latter offering more space. And it is that additional real estate that amplified the sales of the Tiguan family. Volkswagen says that since its introduction in 2017, the Tiguan Allspace has racked up nearly 1.5 million sales.

As you’d expect, the new Tiguan Allspace will share the engine and transmission options with its shorter sibling. The standout feature, however, will be the space for an additional row of seats. Getting those installed is part of the options list in some markets. But, the third row of seats will be standard in India. Obviously, Volkswagen has kept most of the info under wraps at the moment. That said, it has confirmed that the refreshed Tiguan Allspace has received the same treatment as the Tiguan did last year. Also, the SUV will offer a digital cockpit (digital instrument cluster), a host of connectivity features and up to 1,920 litres of luggage space.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Volkswagen says that 55 per cent of all Tiguan models manufactured have a long wheelbase. In China, the longer Tiguan is known as the Tiguan L. That will be produced in Shanghai. For markets in North America, South America and Europe, Volkswagen’s plant in Puebla, Mexico, will make the stretched Tiguan. As for the pre-sales, they start in a few weeks.
