Here’s some bad news for those who were planning to buy a Volvo. The prices of most of the models have shot up. Only two products – the S60 T4 Inscription and the XC90 Twin-Engine Inscription (seven-seater) – have retained their prices. Also, as per the latest price list, the XC90 T8 Excellence is not on offer anymore. So, how do the new prices look like? Here they are:

The last time when Volvo India hiked prices was back in 2018. Since then, the brand has maintained prices for all its models. Volvo says that the rise in input costs and the weakening currency were the two main drivers for the latest increase. The Volvo S90 receives the most significant hike, whereas the D5 versions of the XC60 and the XC90 both now cost Rs 1 lakh more. Volvo will soon fade out the diesel-fed models from India’s line-up, as it has done in several other markets globally. No future Volvos will ever get a diesel engine.

Going forward, Volvo India will be widening its reach to more markets and introduce new models. According to its strategy, announced in March 2021, India will get the XC40 Recharge and refreshed versions of the S90 and XC60 by year-end. While the former will commence Volvo’s EV (Electric Vehicle) journey in India, the latter two will come in petrol-only forms, with subtle design tweaks and new features. The plan also said that by the end of 2022, the C40 Recharge should also arrive in India. What remains to be seen is how the pandemic-driven restrictions will hamper Volvo’s original plan.

Although Volvo has grown in India over the past few years, it still lags behind luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW. Besides fighting the Germans for a piece of pie, the Swedish brand also has two other players to compete with – Lexus and Jaguar Land Rover.
