It wasn’t a secret that on October 7, 2021, at 10 am, Mahindra would open the bookings counter for the XUV700. And the SUV would be available at introductory prices for the first 25,000 bookings. Get this – Mahindra received that amount of bookings in 57 minutes! The demand is such that the automaker has had to shut the bookings process temporarily. If you missed out on reserving one, you could do so from 10 am tomorrow (October 8, 2021). That’s when the window will open for the subsequent 25,000 bookings.

Since all units in that first batch have already found their takers, Mahindra has given the XUV700 a hiked price list. In essence, the prices have increased by up to Rs 50,000. For clarity, here’s the revised one:

Mahindra says that it could take up to six months to fulfil the first order to 25,000 bookings, depending on the variants. In all likelihood, prices for the SUV will receive another upwards bump once Mahindra exhausts the second batch of bookings. And let’s not forget, the automaker has yet to confirm when it will start deliveries of the XUV700. We’ll get to know more about that by October 10, 2021.

The XUV700 is up for grabs in both diesel and petrol guises. There’s a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel motor and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. While both powerplants come coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission by default, a 6-speed torque converter is also available. All petrol-fed variants get 197bhp/380Nm to play with. However, the story isn’t that straightforward for diesel versions. The entry-level MX variant, for instance, has 153bhp/360Nm on tap. All other manual derivatives make do with 182bhp/420Nm, whereas the automatics pack 30Nm more torque.

The XUV700 competes with a range of SUVs, right from the kinds of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, to the MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.
