India’s largest carmaker – Maruti Suzuki – has confirmed that prices of specific models have gone up. The list includes the entire Swift range and all CNG offerings. Prices for the popular hatchback have increased by Rs 15,000, whereas those fitted with bi-fuel systems now cost Rs 10,000 more. CNG variants of models like the Alto, WagonR, Celerio, S-Presso and Ertiga have been affected. The new prices have come into effect from today – July 12, 2021.

Reason? The rise in input costs and the weakening currency are the two main factors why Maruti Suzuki had to pass on some of the costs to the customers. And if you’re thinking that today’s development doesn’t affect you since you are planning a different Maruti Suzuki, then here’s something you should know. The company plans to revise and reveal hiked prices of the remaining models soon. So, if you don’t want to pay the extra amount, get your booking in place at the earliest.

This is the third time Maruti Suzuki has had to increase prices this year. In January 2021, Maruti Suzuki increased the prices of its offerings by up to 6 per cent. In Indian currency, that roughly translated to a maximum hike of Rs 34,000. Then, in April, there was a similar upward revision. On both occasions, the reason cited was precisely the same as the one mentioned above. In addition, the month of April saw Maruti Suzuki start production at Plant C of its Gujarat manufacturing facility. That, at full capacity, can produce 2.5 lakh cars annually, just like Plant A and Plant B can.

It was in February this year when the Indo-Japanese brand introduced the refreshed Swift. Later this year, we’ll get to witness the launch of the all-new Celerio hatchback. Another new model in the pipeline is the 5-door Jimny. Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new compact SUV.
