Saar: Launched in 2015, the crossover received a mid-life update last year and was the first vehicle to retail via Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa range of dealerships.

Here we go again! Maruti Suzuki is in the news with yet another sales milestone. This time around it is the S-Cross. The crossover has surpassed the 1 lakh sales mark in just over three years. It was launched in August of 2015 and was given a mid-life update in October last year. After the launch of the Ciaz facelift earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki updated the equipment list on the S-Cross to make it more appealing.

Here’s what R S Kalsi, senior executive director, sales and marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., said about this feat:

“We are thankful to our customers for their love and positive response. S-Cross has clocked over 16 per cent market share in its segment and has helped us delight customers looking for a premium offering from Maruti Suzuki. We have created a highly engaging ownership experience of the S-Cross by introducing many best-in-segment features which are further complimented by its bold design and premium interiors.”

The S-Cross is Maruti Suzuki’s flagship product and was the first model to retail via the company’s Nexa range of premium dealerships. Maruti Suzuki claims that more than 30 per cent of customers bought the S-Cross in the Nexa Blue paint shade. The crossover is priced between Rs 8.85 – 11.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

For a while, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross was sold with a choice of two, Fiat-sourced diesel engines. However, due to the lack of demand for the bigger, more powerful engine of the two, it was dropped from the S-Cross’ package. Currently, it is available in four variants and all come with a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder mill that produces 90PS/200Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual unit that feeds the power to the front wheels only. Thanks to the mild-hybrid SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) tech, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross returns 25.1kmpl.

In India, the crossover competes with the likes of the Renault Captur, Nissan Terrano and the Hyundai Creta. Soon, the segment will gain another contender – the Nissan Kicks. And let’s not forget about the Renault Duster, which falls in the same sort of price bracket.
