Saar: Available in five trims, the new-age tallboy also brings Hyundai’s first-ever AMT in India.

You have been waiting for this one, haven’t you? Well, your wait is finally over. Hyundai Motor India has launched the much-awaited Santro. It starts at Rs 3.90 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 5.65 lakh (ex-showroom India). With that price list, the all-new Hyundai Santro slots comfortably between the Eon and the Grand i10. Mind you, the prices are introductory in nature and will be applicable to the first 50,000 customers only. Before we get to what all the new-age tallboy brings, let’s acquaint ourselves with its variant-wise pricelist:

As you can see, the new Santro is a far cry from the model that saw the moniker out of production a few years ago. Even the underpinnings of the new model are different. The new Santro is underpinned by a platform that is in close relation to the one found in Grand i10’s recipe. As far as the design goes, the new Santro is immediately recognisable as a Hyundai product thanks to the cascading grille design at the front and very Grand i10-like rear end.

In terms of features, the new Hyundai Santro comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link support, voice recognition, rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, rear AC vents and Hyundai’s ‘Eco Coating Technology’ that prevents unpleasant odour to develop in the AC evaporator by degrading the micro-organisms. On the safety front, the new Santro comes with a driver’s front airbag along with ABS with EBS as standard across the range.

Under the hood lies a 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 69PS/99Nm. If you opt for the factory-fitted CNG kit, the power figures drop down to 59PS/84Nm. The engine can either be had with a 5-speed manual transmission or, for the first time in a Hyundai India product, a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission). The claimed mileage figures for petrol and CNG are 20.3kmpl and 30.5 km/kg respectively.

By default, the new Hyundai Santro comes with a 3 years / 1 lakh km warranty and three years of roadside assistance. Depending on the variant chosen, Hyundai will offer up to seven exterior colour options for the new Santro. The list includes Star Dust, Marina Blue, Fiery Red, Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Imperial Beige and Diana Green. In the entry-level car space, the reincarnated Santro competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Tata Tiago and the recently-launched refreshed Datsun Go.
