Adding to the range of BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) models, Maruti Suzuki has launched the upgraded Eeco. With the Omni gone for good, the Eeco remains the sole van in the company’s portfolio. Prices for the BS6-ready Eeco start at Rs 3.81 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 6.84 lakh. Courtesy of the upgraded powertrain, every variant has received a price hike ranging between Rs 20,000-30,000. Here’s the complete list of prices:

As before, the Eeco houses a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. In BS6 form, the motor pumps out 72bhp/98Nm on petrol and 62bhp/85Nm on CNG. As far as the mileage figures are concerned, the van returns up to 16.11kmpl on petrol and 21.94 km/kg on CNG. When we compare those figures with the BSIV-compliant Eeco, the ones applicable for CNG are identical. However, with petrol as the chosen fuel, the BS6-compliant Eeco has 3Nm less torque but can return 0.74kmpl better mileage.

Another change that Maruti Suzuki has made to the Eeco’s portfolio is the discontinuation of red colour option. With that gone, the van is now available in five shades – black, grey, white, blue and silver. As for the list of gizmos, the Eeco comes with ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver’s front airbag, a heater and a speed alert system as standard. The more expensive variants rope in features such as a manual AC and headrests in the second and third row of seats.

The people-carrier became the recipient of two upward price revisions last year – one in April and then in October. So in less than a year, the Eeco has received three price hikes. In India, its closest rival is the Renault Triber. The French product doesn’t have Ambulance or Cargo variants. However, it pips the Maruti model on safety, comfort and convenience.
