Tata Motors, it seems, is in a bit of a hurry to launch products. After introducing the Altroz hatchback on January 22, 2020, it has lined-up another launch for January 28 – the Ziptron-powered Nexon EV. The homegrown automaker started accepting bookings for the subcompact, zero-emissions SUV last month. Interestingly, the launch date is one day after Morris Garages India reveals the prices of its second product – the ZS EV.

The Nexon EV not only reveals how the refreshed, conventionally-powered version will look like but also introduces Tata Motors’ Ziptron technology. Powering the EV is a front-mounted electric motor that produces 127bhp/245Nm and gets its juices from a 30.2 kWh battery. Under ideal driving conditions, the range on a single charge is over 300km. Tata Motors will reveal the precise figure at the time of launch. The company, however, has confirmed that the SUV can hit 100kmph from nothing in 9.9 seconds.

Like the Tigor EV, the Nexon EV also supports fast (DC) and slow charging (AC). Using a recommended charger and the DC feed, the SUV can replenish its battery from zero to 80 per cent in about an hour. Alternatively, one could also plug in the Nexon EV to a 15amp socket (AC feed) at home or office. Tata Motors says that the battery would take around 8 hours to recharge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent.

As far as the list of features is concerned, the Nexon will come with automatic climate control, a powered sunroof, push-button start/stop, dual airbags, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 16-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps and keyless entry. The SUV will be on offer in three trim levels – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Luxury. If you want more dope on the Nexon EV’s features and its availability, click here.

In all likelihood, the upcoming zero-emissions vehicle from Tata Motors should get priced between Rs 15-17 lakh. Compared to other electric SUVs, such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and the soon-to-be-launched MG ZS EV, the Nexon EV will be significantly more cost-effective.
