The last ten days of January 2020 will bring a lot of new car launches in India. One of them is MG Motor India’s second offering – the MG ZS EV. The zero-emissions SUV will receive a price list on January 23, 2020. Bookings for the EV officially commenced nearly a month ago, and the company confirmed that the first 1,000 orders would get a “special price”.

The ZS EV arriving in India is in the same spec as the one sold in the UK. Powering the SUV is a single, front-mounted electric motor which produces 141bhp/353Nm. A single-speed transmission harnesses all the oomph. The company claims that the ZS EV can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 8.5 seconds. The propulsion system gets its juices from a 44.5 kWh battery which, as per MG Motor India, is enough for an ARAI-certified range of 340km.

The electrical system of the SUV does support AC as well as DC charging. With a 50kW DC feed, the battery can replenish up to 80 per cent within 50 minutes. Such rapid chargers will be available at all MG dealerships. For the uninitiated, the SUV will commence its India innings in five cities – Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Coming back to charging times, it takes between 6-8 hours to charge the car using a 7.4kW charger. The slowest charging option is via a 15amp socket. It could take up to 18 hours to charge the ZS EV using one of those.

MG Motor India has ensured that the ZS EV has enough in its arsenal to satisfy even the most tech-minded people out there. So, gizmos such as LED DRLs, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 60+ connected-car features (i-Smart 2.0), built-in PM 2.5 air filter and cruise control will be on offer. The SUV will have two trim levels – Excite and Exclusive. Click here to know what kind of features they will pack.

MG Motor India will assemble the ZS EV in its Halol factory in Gujarat. Expect it to cost between Rs 22-23 lakh. Once launched, it will compete against the Hyundai Kona Electric.
