As promised, Tata Motors has begun accepting bookings for the Nexon EV. Those who want one can put their names down along with a minimum token amount of Rs 21,000. However, there is a catch. Not everyone can do so. Why not? That’s because the Nexon EV will be available in just 23 cities/towns/localities across India. Here’s the list:

If your location or the city is not listed, don’t be heartbroken. As time goes, that list will only expand. However, there are a couple of factors which will decide how quickly that list widens. One, how well the Nexon EV is accepted. And two, how fast the supporting infrastructure comes up in other cities.

As of now, the Nexon EV is available in three trim levels – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Luxury. The entry-level derivative will come with gizmos like automatic climate control, automatic transmission with sport mode, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and push-button start/stop. The mid-ranger will rope in features such as a dual-tone paint job, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera. It is the range-topper that will boast a powered sunroof, automatic rain-sensing wipers, leatherette seat upholstery and automatic headlamps.

The Nexon EV’s propulsion comes courtesy of a single, front-mounted electric motor which produces 127bhp/245Nm. It gets the juice from a 30.2kWh battery pack, and that comes with a warranty of 8 years/1,60,000 km. As per Tata Motors, the range on a single charge is over 300km. The exact figure, however, will come to light only at the time of launch. What the company has confirmed is that the sprint to 100kmph from a standstill takes 9.9 seconds. As far as the product launch is concerned, it will happen by March 2020.

With Ziptron, which is what powers the Nexon EV, Tata Motors aims to make new technology affordable for consumers in India. The subcompact, zero-emissions SUV is likely to be priced between Rs 15-17 lakh. That’ll make it considerably less expensive than the Hyundai Kona Electric and even the upcoming MG ZS EV, which should be priced around Rs 22-23 lakh.
