Maruti Suzuki calls it a “Service Campaign”. In our books, it is a recall. The carmaker has initiated a voluntary recall for its premium hatchback – the Baleno. A total of 3,757 units, manufactured between December 6, 2018, and February 4, 2019, will be part of this recall. Owners will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki Nexa dealers to fix an appointment for inspection and updating the modified software in actuator assembly ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).

Needless to say, the entire process will be carried out at no cost to the customer. Credit where it’s due, we applaud India’s largest carmaker for putting customer safety above everything else and issuing this recall. If you think your beloved Baleno might be part of this undertaking and you don’t want to wait for a call from the carmaker, you can get a confirmation by entering the chassis number on Maruti Suzuki’s website.

For the Baleno, the chassis number starts with MA3 or MBH, followed by a 14-character alphanumeric number. The said number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also part of the vehicle invoice and registration documents.

Maruti Suzuki launched the mid-life update of the Baleno last month. Just in case you are planning to buy one, head over to our trims detailed story to make your decision making a lot easier. Alongside the facelift of the standard Baleno, the carmaker also introduced a refreshed Baleno RS. Apart from some cosmetic changes inside and out, all Baleno derivatives remain mechanically unchanged. And yes, the new 7.0-inch infotainment system, that debuted with the all-new WagonR, has also found its way in the Baleno’s package.
