Saar: The automaker said that prices of its MPV will go up by Rs 30,000 – 40,000.

Planning to buy a Mahindra Marazzo? Well, you better do so before December 31, 2018. Why? Because Mahindra has announced a price hike for the Marazzo from January 1, 2019. The homegrown automaker has said that prices will go up by Rs 30,000-40,000. In essence, the introductory price list, which is currently applicable and ranges from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 13.90 lakh (ex-showroom India), will be shown the door.

Here’s what Veejay Ram Nakra, who is the chief of sales and marketing of the automotive division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said in an official release:

“As mentioned at the launch, the price of Marazzo was an introductory one. Effective January 1st 2019, we will be taking a price hike on the Marazzo, after a reasonable period of 4 months from its launch.”

It was on September 3, 2018, when Mahindra launched the Marazzo in India. Last month Mahindra announced that in about a month-a-half, the MPV’s bookings count surpassed the 10,000-mark. A few days later, the Scorpio-maker also said that the range-topping M8 trim of the Marazzo has received the support for Apple CarPlay. For the record, the Mahindra Marazzo is available in four trims and you can read about those here.

The Mahindra Marazzo is currently available with just one engine-transmission combination. The power-plant has a cubic capacity of 1.5 litres, producing 123PS of power and 300Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual transmission which feeds the oomph to the front wheels only. Although the Marazzo has a ladder-on-frame chassis, it doesn’t get the option of a four-wheel-drive system.

At the time of launch, Mahindra announced that the options of a BS VI-compliant petrol engine and an automatic transmission will be injected into the Marazzo’s package by the first quarter of 2020. The diesel engine currently powering the MPV will also be upgraded to meet the stricter emission norms. In India, the Mahindra Marazzo competes with the Renault Lodgy and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
