Saar: With introductory prices starting from Rs 9.99 lakh, the new three-row MPV is available in four variants covering just one engine-transmission combination.

Mahindra added yet another UV (utility vehicle) in its product portfolio by launching the Marazzo MPV in India. It is currently available in four variants covering just one engine-transmission option. The company said that it will add the options of a petrol engine and an automatic transmission around the same time when BS-VI emission norms kick in. That said, the diesel engine, which is currently on offer with the Marazzo and is BS-IV compliant, will also be upgraded to meet the stricter emission standards, which will be implemented nationwide in April 2020.

Before we get to listing the main set of features that the Marazzo has to offer in each of its variants, let’s get the vitals out of the way. Starting with the price list:

Mahindra Marazzo Pricelist (Ex-showroom India)

VariantPrice
M2Rs 9.99 Lakh
M4Rs 10.95 Lakh
M6Rs 12.40 Lakh
M8Rs 13.90 Lakh

It is worth noting that the prices mentioned in the table above are introductory. Mahindra hasn’t mentioned when it plans to phase out the reduced prices for the Marazzo and implement the hiked ones.

As mentioned above, the Mahindra Marazzo is currently available with just one engine-transmission combination. The company has developed a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that, with the help of a turbocharger, puts out 123PS/300Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that routes the power to the front wheels only. Although the Marazzo is built on a ladder-on-frame chassis, it will not be offered with a four-wheel-drive configuration. Mahindra claims that the ARAI certified mileage is rated at 17.6kmpl, however, in real-world conditions the fuel-economy should hover between 10-15kmpl.

In terms of dimensions, the Marazzo is 4,585mm long, 1,866mm wide, 1,774mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,760mm. Compared to the Mahindra XUV500, the Marazzo has the same overall length but is 24mm narrower and 11mm shorter in height. However, the new MPV has a wheelbase that’s 60mm longer than the XUV500. That helps it achieve the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra passenger vehicle currently on sale today. As far as boot space is concerned, the Marazzo offer at least 190 litres of it with the last row of seats erected. The figure shoots up to 1,055 litres if the second and the third row of seats are folded down.

The Mahindra Marazzo is available in six colours for the exterior – Iceberg White, Oceanic Black, Mariner Maroon, Shimmering Silver, Aqua Marine and Poseidon Purple. With the vitals out of the way, let’s get started with the variant-wise list of features. As always, we will be listing only those set of features which can potentially make or break a deal.

Variant – M2

Priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom India), the entry-level variant of the Marazzo is available in both 7- and 8-seat layout. Given below is the list of main features on the M2:

  • 16-inch steel rims
  • Front row armrests
  • Second-row armrests only with captain seats
  • Power windows
  • Central locking
  • One 12V socket and USB charging port each
  • Eco mode
  • 2-inch monochrome MID
  • Dual airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • Disc brakes on all wheels
  • ISOFIX anchorages
  • Impact and speed sensing auto door lock and unlock
  • Passenger side airbag off switch
  • Overspeed warning

On one hand, Mahindra has done a fine job in ensuring that even the entry-level derivative of the Marazzo gets a host of safety gizmos. On the other hand, however, there is no music system, no parking sensors and no fog lamps. Even the wheel caps aren’t part of the standard package. Our recommendation is to skip this variant.

Variant – M4

Like the M2, the M4 variant is also available with 7 or 8 seats. Here’s what it gets over the entry-level version:

  • Wheel caps
  • Armrests in front and second row
  • Electrically adjustable and body coloured ORVMs
  • Height adjustable driver’s seat
  • 2 USB ports (One media and one charging only)
  • A 4.2-inch audio system with 4-speakers
  • Bluetooth music playback and telephony
  • Mahindra Blue Sense App
  • Voice Messaging System
  • Rear defogger with auto timer

Compared to the M2, the M4 looks a lot more promising. Mahindra is asking for an additional Rs 96,000 for the abovementioned kit and we believe that it is, sort of, worth it. If you are happy doing without a touchscreen infotainment system and gadgets like rear parking sensors, rearview camera and cruise control, the M4 should fit your needs nicely.

Variant – M6

If you are after an 8-seater version of the Marazzo and you want the best possible feature list, your search ends at the M6 variant. Here’s what it gets over and above the M4 variant:

  • Projector headlamps
  • Front and rear fog lamps
  • Follow-me-home headlamps
  • Cornering lamps
  • Body coloured door handles with chrome accents
  • Temperature sensor
  • Door cladding
  • 16-inch alloy wheels
  • Multifunction steering wheel
  • Multi-point lumbar support for driver
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Reading lamps for the third row and luggage compartment
  • Tambour door on the centre console
  • 0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Video playback through USB and 1GB onboard memory
  • Ecosense
  • 2-inch coloured TFT MID
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Car theft alarm and Emergency call

That list of features sure is big. But, the price difference between the M4 and the M6 variant is a whopping Rs 1.45 lakh. Even after spending that amount of money, you still miss out on creature comforts like cruise control, Android Auto and a rear-view camera. In our books, the asking price for the M6 is a bit steep.

Variant – M8

Here comes the range-topper! It is priced at Rs 13.90 lakh (ex-showroom India), which makes it Rs 1.5 lakh dearer than the M6 variant. What are the main features that you get for that additional money? Here’s the list:

  • LED DRLs
  • Entry assist lamps
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Automatic climate control
  • Cruise control
  • Electrically foldable ORVMs
  • Leatherette seat upholstery
  • Sunshades for the second row
  • One-touch operation and anti-pinch for driver’s side window
  • Cool glove box
  • Capacitive touchscreen with Capsense and Haptic
  • 8GB onboard memory
  • Front two tweeters
  • Voice recognition and SMS readout
  • Rear-view camera with adaptive guidelines

There is no bargaining on the fact that the M8 brings almost everything that a customer can possibly ask for. Most of the extra money that goes in buying the M8 over the M6 variant of the Marazzo is concentrated towards the infotainment and comfort factors.
