Meet the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster. As we are sure you’ll agree, that name is a mouthful. But then, it has to be as it’s a convertible version of the former Nürburgring lap record holder which was a go-faster derivative of the Aventador SV. Not so confusing now, is it?! Anyway, the Aventador SVJ Roadster will be a rarer car than its fixed-roof sibling. While the latter’s production is restricted to 900 units, the convertible’s production will end at just 800 units.

Like the Coupé, the Roadster is powered by a 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 engine that produces 770PS/720Nm. The oomph is harnessed and fed to all four wheels by a 7-speed automatic transmission. Sprint times? 0-100kmph takes 2.9 seconds (0.1 seconds slower than the Coupé) and 0-200kmph takes 8.8 seconds (0.2 seconds slower than the Coupé). Flat out, the open-top Lambo can go past the 350kmph. By how much, we don’t know as Lamborghini won’t say it.

The obvious reason why the SVJ Roadster is a tiny bit slower to accelerate and has, in all probability, a lower top speed than the SVJ Coupé is because the former is 50kg heavier. Apart from that, the Roadster gets all the techy stuff like Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Attiva 2.0 (LDVA 2.0), rear-wheel-steering, Magneto Rheological Suspension (LMS) and multiple driving modes. With all those doing their job, Lamborghini claims that the driving dynamics of the Aventador SVJ Roadster are at par with those of the fixed-top SVJ.

As for the Roadster’s roof, it is made from high-pressure RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding) carbon fibre. Sadly, it isn’t powered and has to be removed manually by releasing some levers from inside the cabin. Once removed, it can be stored under the bonnet as the engine is behind the seats. The colour in these pictures is what Lambo calls Bronzo Zenas (bronze), coupled with accents in Bianco phanes (white). Needless to say, the Aventador SVJ Roadster can be finished in almost 350 colour pallets, thanks to Lamborghini’s Ad Personam customisation program.

Predictably, the SVJ Roadster is pricier than the SVJ Coupé. It is priced at 387,007 euros without taxes. That’s almost 38,000 euros dearer. Lamborghini will commence the delivery process in summer this year.
