After a plethora of teasers, Mahindra-owned Automobili Pininfarina has finally taken the cover off its first creation. Dubbed as the Battista, it is a full-fledged electric hypercar and worthy enough to carry the name of the company’s founder – Battista “Pinin” Farina. Let’s start with a simple fact – the Pininfarina Battista is the most powerful road-legal car ever to come out of Italy. That’s the country which gave birth to brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani.

So, what’s powering the EV (electric vehicle)? There a total of four electric motors, one for each wheel. Put together, they produce up to 1,900PS/2,300Nm. As you’d expect, with that kind of oomph the performance numbers are just biblical. The sprint from nought to 100kmph takes less than 2 seconds. Not impressed? Get this – the Battista can reach 300kmph from nothing in less than 12 seconds. The exact top speed hasn’t been listed but it is definitely more than 350kmph.

With one dedicated motor for each wheel, the Pininfarina Battista effectively has an electric all-wheel-drive system and that too with torque vectoring functionality. The electric juice is harnessed from a 120-kWh battery pack which, if you don’t drive the Battista like a lunatic, can deliver a range of 450km between charges. Obviously, there are different driving modes on offer, five of them.

The interior of the Battista is just as striking as its exterior. The dashboard’s curvy layout is dominated by three screens. The one behind the sporty, multifunction steering wheel is the smallest of the trio and displays data like speed. The other two which flank the aforementioned one get distributed display duties like battery level and range, and infotainment data such as navigation and media control.

As mentioned before, the Battista will enter production in 2020 and only 150 units of it will exist. Automobili Pininfarina will ensure that no more than 50 cars are sold in each of the three major continents – North America, Europe and Asia. There is no pricing available yet but since the Battista is an extremely special car, it will have an equally special price tag. Let’s put it this way – Jari Kohonen, who is the Chief Sales Officier at Automobili Pininfarina, said that many of the prospective clients for the Battista already have more than 80 cars each.
