Last month, Jaguar revealed its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in the form of the updated F-Pace. Now, the British carmaker has taken the wraps off the refreshed XF and updated XE. The former gets a subtle makeover outdoors, a thorough one indoors and a longer list of features. The XE, which received a mid-life refresh last year, now boasts an updated cabin and, like the XF, an extensive list of creature comforts. Also, both sedans gain the benefits of a mild-hybrid system.

Sine both saloons get the same powertrains, let’s cover them first. Jaguar is offering the sedans with one diesel and two petrol engine options. The diesel is a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit which produces 201bhp/430Nm and comes mated to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. That add-on, as you must be aware, aids not only fuel economy but also acceleration. Moving the petrol-fed mills, both have a displacement of 2.0 litres. The difference is in the state of tune – 247bhp/365Nm and 296bhp/400Nm. All engines come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and there’s the option between rear-wheel- and all-wheel-drive setups.

XE

The entry-level Jaguar sedan now packs the Pivi Pro infotainment system, with a 10-inch main screen and 5.5-inch lower touchscreen. The new platform also connects with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the head-up display. That’s not all as the new system allows the pairing of two mobile phones simultaneously. And, thanks to an embedded dual-sim capability, it can connect to two LTE networks at the same time and carry out multiple operations at the same time, including Over-The-Air updates.

As for the interior design, there’s a new split-rim steering wheel and a new quilt design for the seats. Also, there’s now a PM2.5 filter.

XF

Part of the Jaguar XF’s mid-life refresh is the subtle makeover on the outside. There’s new front bumper with larger but lower air intakes, a wider front grille, Leaper emblem on the side fenders and slimmer all-LED headlamps with ‘Double J’ DRLs. At the rear, the saloon features a broader bumper and darkened rear light surrounds.

Updates indoors are much more extensive. They fall right in line with what we saw on the refreshed F-Pace. Like the XE, XF now packs the Pivi Pro infotainment, but it comes with an 11.4-inch HD touchscreen display. As per Jaguar, the centre console is now more “sport and faster in profile”, and can be equipped with the optional wireless mobile charger. Just like the F-Pace, the XF gets a new Drive Selector, open-pore wood veneers and aluminium, new seats and laser-etched mid-line speaker frets.

In terms of features, you can have the XF with Pixel LED tech, Adaptive Driving Beam, a PM2.5 air filter, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and head-up display. Jaguar has also fitted the XF with Active Road Noise Cancellation Technology, which continually monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave. And, the XF also benefits from the dual-sim configuration, the ClearSight IRVM, 3D surround camera and adaptive cruise control.

In addition to the standard trim nomenclature – S, SE and HSE – both sedans are now available with the optional Black Exterior Pack. As the name suggests, it ropes-in several blacked-out elements to add a dash of sportiness in the equation. Both updated sedans are now available to order in the UK. Expect Jaguar to introduce them in India sometime next year.
