It was back in February this year when Tata Motors Ltd. introduced the BS6-compliant Harrier. Along with the upgraded hardware came the option of an automatic transmission and a factory-fitted sunroof. Among the long list of variants were four that wore ‘#Dark Edition’ tags. That count has now risen to six. And courtesy of the newly and quietly added variants, the blacked-out goodness is more affordable.

The #Dark Edition theme is now available in both XT and XT+ derivatives. In the former form, the asking price is Rs 16.5 lakh. That number shoots up to Rs 17.3 lakh in the latter specification. Now, both those variants come with manual transmission only. So, if you want an automatic #Dark Edition Harrier, the least-expensive option is in the XZA form. That costs Rs 19.15 lakh. All #Dark Edition derivatives cost Rs 10,000 more than their donor variants. Here’s the list of all #Dark Edition options:

In #Dark Edition form, the Harrier comes in Altas Black shade boasting a bunch of blacked-out elements. That includes the alloy wheels, skid plates and the interior upholstery. And, to shout about it all, the SUV also adorns #Dark badges on the front fenders.

Predictably, the XT and XT+ versions miss out on a few features. That includes a 9-speaker JBL sound system, six airbags, fog lamps with cornering function, Terrain Response Modes and Hill Descent Control. But, they still offer stuff like 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker sound system, push-button start, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, auto headlamps and a panoramic sunroof (XT+ only).

As things stand, the Tata Harrier comes with just one engine option – an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre turbo-diesel producing 168bhp/350Nm. The powerplant comes coupled to a 6-speed manual as standard. However, as mentioned above, there’s also a 6-speed automatic gearbox available.

In India, the Tata Harrier competes with a range of SUVs. In the same segment, there’s the MG Hector and the Jeep Compass. Smaller SUVs, such as the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta, are also available in the same sort of price bracket.
