Hyundai AH2 Naamkaran

Several auto pundits believed that Hyundai Motor India will name its new small car, which is currently codenamed as AH2, will be christened as the Santro. And sure enough, it did make sense for the carmaker to revive a blockbuster nameplate from the history books. But, the carmaker has other ideas. Well, at least by the looks of it! The company has commenced the naming campaign for the AH2, aptly dubbed as ‘NaamKaran’.

Hyundai is inviting entries to name the AH2. If interested, you can visit the website www.hyundainaamkaran.com and submit yours, or, send them via SMS or WhatsApp to any of the three numbers – 8652000377/88/99. Hyundai hasn’t mentioned when it will stop entertaining entries for the AH2’s christening. That said, it will be a least a month from now as the car’s official name is expected to be announced in the first week of October 2018.

The first product, which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo as the SP Concept, will launch in the second half of next year. Anyway, back to the AH2. Hyundai also released a sketch of the small car as the first official teaser. Many believe that AH2 will slot between the Grand i10 and the Eon. That will not be the case. It will, in fact, become a modern-day replacement for the soon-to-be-axed Eon. The AH2 will meet the basic safety norms – a set that all new cars in India will have to comply by from next year. And before April 2020, the South Korean carmaker will upgrade the powertrain to ensure that the AH2 is compliant with BS-VI emission standards.
