Saar: At least that’s what the majority voted for during the month-long name christening campaign.

Nearly a month ago, Kia Motors India shortlisted four names for the SP Concept SUV and asked everyone to vote for their favourite. Let’s list those four names down first:

  • Tusker
  • Trazor
  • SP-Z
  • Trailster

We don’t want to brag about anything but during the first week of voting, all renowned automotive publications in India started speculating that Trazor could be the chosen name. Sure, why not. Four final names and every name had a 25 per cent chance of coming on top. But that’s not what their reports were based on. They chose Trazor because, after about five days of voting, it was in the lead. But none of the reports mentioned when the voting will end. Except for us. The voting ended yesterday and the based on what we saw last, the name Tusker was voted the highest.

Kia Motors India Mulling Production Of Electric And Hybrid Vehicles

When we reported about this unique name christening campaign first, the name Tusker was in the second position behind Trazor. Back then, the name Trailster was at the last position but over the last few weeks, it outnumbered SP-Z and Trazor to bag the second position. So, to sum up, until yesterday, Tusker was first, followed by Trailster, Trazor and then SP-Z, in that order.

Kia Motors India hasn’t officially announced the final name yet. But we can surely hope that the South Korean carmaker will announce it way before the SUV enters production, which is expected to happen early next year.

The company is expected to launch a total of four products in the span of two years. Right after the SP Concept, or should we dare call it Tusker, Kia Motors India will launch a sub-4 metre SUV. That, as we are sure you know, will take on the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Honda WR-V.
