Saar: Launched in September last year, the sub-4 metre SUV took less than a year to achieve this feat.

The Tata Nexon has been a success story for the homegrown carmaker. The company recently announced that its sub-4 metre SUV has crossed the 50,000-production milestone in less than a year. Launched on September 21 last year, the Nexon took less than 11 months to achieve this feat. The value-for-money SUV is manufactured at Tata Motors’ Ranjangaon plant, which is around 50km away from the Maharashtra city of Pune.

Tata Nexon Now Comes With Apple CarPlay

It isn’t surprising to see the Nexon do well in its segment. Compared to the Ford EcoSport, for instance, the Tata product has always had the price advantage. And when you put the Nexon side-by-side to the king of the segment, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the former has a wider array of choices for consumers. One of the biggest differentiators between the Vitara Brezza and the Nexon has been the option of a petrol engine with the latter. Even on the diesel front, the Nexon’s motor is the most powerful and fun-to-drive in the segment.

It is even safe for passengers. Folks over at Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) awarded the Tata Nexon four stars for adult occupants in the front seats and three stars for child occupants in the rear. The crash-testing body was impressed with how the body of the sub-4 metre SUV remained stable during the off-set frontal crash at 64kmph.

The Nexon, when launched, was available with only a 6-speed manual transmission. In May this year, the homegrown carmaker added the option of a 6-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) in the range-topping XZ+ variants. A couple of months later, i.e. in July 2018, Tata Motors added the AMT option in the mid-range XM variants as well. Additionally, the Nexon’s dual-tone exterior colour options were also expanded. All-in-all, Tata Motors has been busy ticking all the boxes off to ensure the Nexon has everything to offer. Well, almost everything!
