Okay. Let’s start from the beginning. Try and keep track of the intervals. After debuting the Venue in April this year, Hyundai Motor India officially commenced accepting reservations for it in the first week of May. On the 21st of the same month, the car launched with an introductory price list starting at Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom India). Less than a week later, the company announced that it had already received more than 17,000 bookings for the Venue.

During the last week of the following month, that number had risen past 33,000. The count breached the 50,000-mark in just over a month. Too many digits to digest? Well, in a nutshell, the Venue kept the bookings count rolling for its maker even though the industry had been going through the worst downfall in years. Hyundai’s Indian arm has now confirmed that it has received more than 75,000 bookings for the Venue within five months. You might be wondering how many units have reached their customers? That number is 42,681.

So, what does all that mean? During the May-Sep period, the Venue was not only the bestselling SUV amongst its peers but also across segments. In other words, more people in India bought the Venue than any other utility vehicle. In need for some more dope? How about this – fifty per cent of the customers opted for derivatives equipped with Hyundai’s BlueLink technology. What that also means is that half of the customers booked a variant which costs at least Rs 10.6 lakh before taxes.

For the uninitiated, the BlueLink technology ropes in over 30 connected-car features, bucketed in seven main categories such as Safety, Security and Location-Based services. Some the highlights include live traffic information, emergency assistance, alerts for over speeding and geo-fencing, and remotely starting or stopping the engine. Most of the creature comforts that fall under the BlueLink umbrella are absent in the Venue’s competition. Speaking of which, it rivals the like of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the Tata Nexon.
