Relax! This isn’t a safety-related recall. It is more to do with compliance. India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has triggered a voluntary recall for 40,453 Eeco vans. The units, manufactured between November 4, 2019, and February 25, 2020, and a few more which received headlamp replacement fall under this service campaign.

The company says that it wants to inspect for a possible issue of standard symbol missing on the headlamp. If required, the appropriate rectification method will be implemented at no cost to the customer. Maruti Suzuki says that “owners of suspected vehicles under this recall campaign will be contacted by authorised dealers in due course of time”.

Since that is ambiguous, you can also visit the Maruti Suzuki website, click on “Imp. Customer Info” tab in the main menu and select the “Eeco recall” story link. From there, you can verify whether your van is part of the recall or not. All you need is to enter the vehicle’s chassis number. It is an alpha-numeric code, starting with MA3 and followed by another 14 characters. You can find it on the vehicle’s ID plate. Else, refer to the invoice or registration certificate.

The Eeco is amongst the oldest workhorses in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. It graduated to meet the stricter BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission norms earlier this year before India went under lockdown. The rear-wheel-drive multi-purpose van comes with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 72bhp/98Nm, and a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki also offers a factory-fitted CNG kit. With CNG as the chosen combustion fuel, the Eeco has 62bhp/85Nm on tap. The claimed mileage figures for petrol and CNG are 16.11kmpl and 20.88km/kg, respectively.

One can have the Eeco in five- and seven-seater forms and with or without an AC. Also, Maruti Suzuki offers the van in five colours – black, grey, white, blue and silver.
