There’s some good news for Land Rover fans, specifically those waiting for the new Discovery to hit the Indian market. The spec-sheet is out. The Discovery, which broke cover in the refreshed form in November last year, will be offered with three engine options and seven trim levels. Let’s dive straight into the details.

Powertrains

Land Rover will offer the new Discovery with one diesel and two petrol engines. The diesel is the D300 unit, which has a 3.0-litre cubic capacity and produces 296bhp/650Nm. With that powerplant, the Discovery can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.8 seconds and top out at 209kmph. Those looking for a petrol-fed motor in the mix can opt between P300 and P360 engine options. The former is a 2.0-litre unit with 296bhp/400Nm on tap, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 201kmph. Choose the latter, and the SUV comes with a 3.0-litre mill that puts out 355bhp/500Nm. Land Rover claims a standard sprint time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 209kmph.

No matter which engine you choose, it will come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The D300 and P360 units also pack the goodness of mild-hybrid technology, which aids mileage and acceleration.

Trim Levels

As mentioned above, there are seven trim levels that Land Rover India has devised for the new Discovery. They are – Standard, S, SE, HSE, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE and R-Dynamic HSE. Those who settle for the Standard spec will get no choice in the powertrain department. They will get the new Discovery with the P300 engine. The rest will have all three options.

Features

Some of the highlights include an 11.4-inch touchscreen Pivi Pro infotainment system, dual-sim (4G) support, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with 3D mapping, a full-colour head-up display, a PM2.5 filter, a new four-spoke steering wheel, a new gear selector and ClearSight Ground View system. Stuff like Matrix LED headlamps, electric third-row seats, Meridian Surround Sound system and Adaptive Cruise Control is reserved for HSE/R-Dynamic HSE variants.

Jaguar Land Rover India hasn’t confirmed when it plans to launch the Discovery facelift. Even the announcement for “bookings open” is still awaited. When it arrives, the new Land Rover Discovery will renew its rivalry with SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Volvo XC90 and the BMW X5. Unlike the Volvo and the Land Rover, both of which are seven-seat SUVs, the other two are five-seater models.
