Saar: The carmaker wants to inspect and replace airbag sensors in a certain number of units of the sedan, manufactured between July 2015 and March 2016.

The Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker Toyota has initiated a voluntary recall for the Corolla Altis sedan. In an official statement, the carmaker has said that it wants to inspect and replace airbag sensors of a certain number of Corolla Altis models sold in India. While the company did not state the exact number of units which will fall under this recall campaign, it did mention that the affected units were manufactured between July 2015 and March 2016.

Needless to say, the entire process of inspection and replacement will be carried out at no cost to the customer. Toyota dealers across the country will soon get in touch with the owners of the affected lot of sedans to take a suitable appointment. If you don’t want to wait, you can either connect directly with your nearest authorised dealer or call the Toyota Kirloskar Motor customer assistance centre. The company has also said that “there are no reported failures of the affected part or any aggravations thereon in India till date.”

In India, the Toyota Corolla Altis received a mid-life update in March last year. That means the affected lot of cars were from the pre-facelift era. If you own one from that era, now is the time to fish-out its papers and check whether your beloved Corolla Altis falls under the latest recall campaign. This isn’t the first recall that Toyota has triggered for the Corolla Altis in the current calendar year. In April 2018, it recalled units manufactured between January 2013 and December 2013 to inspect and replace the installed airbag inflators. Bravo to the company for being proactive in addressing safety-related issues.

In India, the Toyota Corolla Altis is priced between Rs 16.27 lakh and Rs 20.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Its list of rivals includes the Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia. Toyota will soon unveil the next-gen Corolla Altis which should land on our shores sometime next year.
