Saar: It is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which produces 410PS/550Nm.

The least expensive BMW M model is here. Dubbed as the BMW M2 Competition, it wears a price tag of Rs 79.90 lakh (ex-showroom India). The model also marks the entry of the 2 Series range for BMW in India. Globally, BMW unveiled the M2 Competition at the end of July this year. About a couple of weeks later, we reported that BMW India has listed the said model on its official website. In essence, the Munich-based automaker took less than four months to bring the M2 Competition in India.

BMW India has priced the M2 Competition rather well. Why do we say that? The BMW M2 Competition is a force to be reckoned with. Under the hood lives a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder petrol engine, boosted by a turbocharger. It puts out 410PS of power and 550Nm of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which feeds the oomph to the rear wheels only. The setup is enough for the car to hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.2 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph.

BMW’s M division always ensures that whatever rolls out of their floor has the looks to match its performance. And the M2 Competition is no exception. On the outside, the two-door coupĂ© is offered with dual-double round tailpipes, ‘M2 Competition’ branding on several panels, side air vents, the kidney grille finished in black and 19-inch lightweight M alloy wheels. If all that is a bit poor for you, the car also comes with front and rear park distance control, rear-view camera, automatic and adaptive LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a choice of five metallic paint finishes.

Inside the cabin, the kit includes two-zone climate control, a 7-speaker sound system mated to a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, IVRM with auto anti-dazzle function and a multifunction M leather steering wheel with paddle shifters. Obviously, there a bunch of optional extras if you want to spec the car up. The list includes M Sport seats, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with inbuilt 3D maps, 20GB storage and support for Apple CarPlay, and a 360-watt, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The only real competitor for the BMW M2 Competition in India is the Porsche 718 Cayman. The latter is priced at Rs 85.95 lakh (ex-showroom India) and that makes it around Rs 6 lakh dearer than the BMW.
