About two weeks ago, Volkswagen India started the local assembly of the new Tiguan. And now, it has revealed all there is to know about the car in question. It arrives in just one fully-loaded variant, priced at Rs 31.99 lakh. Mind you, that price is introductory in nature and will shoot up soon.

The refreshed Tiguan is an eye-catcher, just like all other subtly-styled VWs out there. But, it is late to join the party in India. Nevertheless, Volkswagen has tried to keep things crisp with an enticing price list and a handsomely-loaded package. And, like all other VW models in India, the new Tiguan arrives in a petrol-only form.

Powering the new Tiguan is a 2.0-litre TSI motor that pumps out 188bhp/320Nm. Mated to it is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which routes the oomph to all four wheels. If you didn’t know, the same engine-transmission combo also does duty in other cars from the VW Group. The list includes two Skodas – Octavia and Superb – and two Audis – Q2 and A4. For the record, the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq will also borrow it.

.

Coming to the list of features, it is a lengthy one. It includes stuff like a panoramic sunroof, Intelligent IQ.Lights technology, cruise control, 30-colour ambient lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels. Other features, such as a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected-car tech, three-zone automatic climate control and powered driver’s seat with memory function, are also available. Falling under the safety umbrella are features like six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS, Electronic Stability Programme, Hill Start/Descent Control and auto-hold.

Volkswagen offers seven colours for the new Tiguan – Pure White, Nightshade Blue, Oryx White, Deep Black, Dolphin Grey, Reflex Silver and Kings Red. As for the standard warranty, it is for four years/1,00,000km. In addition, the package includes three free services and a four-year membership for roadside assistance (RSA). Of course, you can extend RSA and warranty by paying extra.

The new Tiguan is a solid package. It is hard to ignore, especially when considering its strengths – robustly built, brilliant engine and transmission, a long list of features and a dignified design. In India, it falls in the same price range as the Audi Q2, MG Gloster and the Toyota Fortuner.
