Audi India has had a promising 2021, which started with the introduction of the refreshed A4. And now, with the year-end not too far away, the German brand has launched the third variant of its least-expensive sedan available in India. Called simply the ‘Premium’, it becomes the new entry-level derivative of the A4. At Rs 39.99 lakh, it costs Rs 3.7 lakh less than the next-in-line variant – Premium Plus. However, the saloon costs Rs 7.62 lakh less in its newest avatar when compared to the range-topping Technology derivative.

Under the bonnet is the proven 2.0-litre TSI mill that pumps out 188bhp/320Nm. Coupled with it is a slick 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that helps achieve a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.3 seconds. Flat out, the A4 can clock 241kmph.

As you’d expect, the new variant doesn’t offer the kind of features that the other two offer. But, that said, it isn’t like sitting in a cave either.  The list includes a glass sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless mobile charger, automatic climate control and an Audi sound system. If all that is a bit poor for you, the list also comprises ambient lighting (single colour), six airbags, powered front seats, heated and powered ORVMs, auto-dimming IRVM and cruise control.

Here’s what Balbir Singh Dhillon, who’s the head of Audi India, said in an official release:

The Audi A4 since its launch in January has garnered great response – this is a car that has historically been a volume seller for the brand. Today, we are happy to introduce a new variant – the Audi A4 Premium to mark the success of our brand in 2021. This is a time to celebrate and we couldn’t be happier that we are able to give our customers a choice of three trim levels to choose from. I am confident this will bring in more customers to the ever-growing Audi family.

In India, the Audi A4 competes directly with cars such as the Volvo S60, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE and the BMW 3 Series. Out of the lot, which one is your favourite?
