If you roll back the clock to October 2020, that’s when India received its first luxury EV. Since then, several others have joined the bandwagon. Some of them are in the same sort of price bracket, while others cost more. But, in all that, the name BMW has been missing. However, that is all set to change. As per a new report from PTI, the Bavarian-based automotive giant will launch three electric vehicles in India over the next six months.

The first of the lot is the iX SUV. That’ll land sometime next month before the year 2021 comes to a close. Next in line is the MINI Cooper SE, bookings for which opened in October this year. So that should be amongst us within 90 days. Post that, before the 180-day period comes to an end, BMW will also launch the i4 sedan.

To welcome the three EVs on Indian shores, BMW will equip all its touchpoints with 50kW DC chargers. Besides that, it’ll give a home charging kit as well. In addition, the automaker says that it is tying up with energy companies to provide charging solutions to customers.

Just to give you’ll some perspective, the iX is a larger crossover than the Mercedes EQC and the Jaguar I-Pace. In all likelihood, BMW will offer the EV in two variants – xDrive40 and xDrive50. The latter is the punchier one and will provide 516bhp/765Nm with two electric motors in the mix. As per BMW, the iX can hit 100kmph from nothing in 4.6 seconds and reach an electronically-governed top speed of 200kmph. As for the range, that’ll be up to 631km (WLTP-certified) depending on the variant chosen.

The i4 is also likely to land in two avatars – eDrive40 and the M50. It is shorter than the Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan. And when compared to their top-tier versions, the BMW isn’t as powerful either. But all that doesn’t equate to a slouchy recipe. Depending on the variant, the i4 will offer up to 536bhp/795Nm with the help of two electric motors. The standard sprint takes as little as 3.9 seconds to complete, while the top speed is limited to 225kmph. Range? That figure can be as high as 590km (WLTP-certified).
