Are you amongst the herd who have been waiting for the new Safari? Well, your days of standing by are almost up. Tata Motors has will officially start accepting bookings from February 4, 2021. As for the launch, that will happen later in the same month. And yes, the homegrown automaker has also revealed all there is to know about the all-new Safari.

Powertrain options

As expected, the Safari borrows the engine-transmission combinations from the Harrier. That means all variants will come with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powerplant which pumps out 168bhp/350Nm. As standard, it comes coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Those who want a two-pedal setup can opt for one of three variants with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Tata Motors hasn’t revealed the mileage figures yet. With the added weight, the Safari will not match the Harrier on that front.

Trim levels

Following the same terminology as all other cars, Tata Motors has conceived four main derivatives of the Safari – XE, XM, XT and XZ. Branching out from the latter two trim levels are XT+ and XZ+. The highlight those two iterations have is the panoramic sunroof. As mentioned above, there are three automatic variants as well – XMA, XZA and XZA+.

Features

As standard, the Safari will pack stuff like a steering wheel with tilt & telescopic adjust, projector headlamps, dual airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Hold Control, Roll-Over Mitigation and all four disc brakes. Go up the trim tree and features like an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 18-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, multiple drive modes, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, automatic climate control and iRA connected-car tech are available. Some of the other gizmos include auto-dimming IRVM, ambient mood lighting, auto headlamps and wipers, Hill Descent Control and Terrain Response Modes.

Rivals

Tata’s new flagship offering will compete directly with the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500. Like the former, the Safari will be available in six- and seven-seat configurations. Soon, the three-row version of the Hyundai Creta will join the party. Expect Tata Motors to price the Safari between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 22 lakh.
